As a member, please do fill out and return the waiver. The first blank of the waiver should be filled with “Winchester Wheelmen”. The Winchester Wheelmen have obtained their liability insurance through the LAB, hence the use of document containing their name.
Club membership to the Winchester Wheelmen
Some reminders / general information about the club:
We are a non-profit organization.
We are cycling advocates for all cyclists, mountain bike riders, road bike riders and families.
Membership runs coincidentally with the calendar year, with the year beginning on January 1st (ref. for those who might be on Chinese Year or something entirely different.) We used to, on the order of 10 years ago, keep track of everyone’s membership month and they would be a member for one year – big pain to keep track of! We’re not super-strict about the calendar year in terms of cutting members off from the newsletter. For example, a 2011 member will get the newsletter until March of 2012 unless they renew.
Club members are to receive a copy of the Winchester Wheelmen Resource CD-ROM upon initial membership. If you didn’t get one, let us know. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org . We no longer have the WW map booklet from 1987 available. All of the maps that were in that booklet are on the CD-ROM, along with many other materials.
The club is called Winchester Wheelmen because of the ties to the national organization, League of American Bicyclists (LAB). The predecessor name to the national organization was League of American Wheelmen (LAW), hence “Winchester Wheelmen”. We still secure club cycling insurance through LAB. That’s what part of your dues go to.
Dues are spent in different ways by the club in different years. Though we might not do a club picnic in a particular year, we spend money in the community to support cycling (trail maintenance tools, helmet purchases, donations to events, etc.); this is done by vote at club meetings. Other things that consume dues money are printing and postage for the newsletter. (Thanks to so many taking the letter by e-mail; only 5% of the club is taking the newsletter by USPS!)

We hold the election of officers at the December dinner banquet. Non-elected positions in the club are webmaster and newsletter editor. These positions were not included in the charter for the club when it was incorporated in the 1980’s. To change the charter would be problematic, so these simply remain non-elected positions.
