Winchester Wheelmen Summer Picnic

We’re having a picnic on the afternoon of 13 Aug 2023 at the James Wood FFA Shelter.  The picnic is potluck sides with the club providing non-alcoholic beverages and grilled hamburgers and hot dogs.  (Being potluck for the sides means we have no list of who is bringing what; be creative!)

Robert Golightly is providing a freezer with ice; ice cream; and coolers with drinks (water, tea, and soft drinks).

This is an event for the whole family.  In addition to bike rides in and out of the park, the shelter is directly adjacent to a wooded area with a playground.

• When:  13 Aug 2023; Rides at 2:30 PM; food at 4:00 PM.
• Where:  Sherando Park at the James Wood FFA Shelter.  GPS address:  130 Park Drive, Stephens City, VA 22655.

Before the food segment of the picnic, there will be two rides to choose from:

1. Gravel ride of about 20 miles leaving from the park. (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43855133)  Please look at this ride profile.  It includes some steep climbs and descents.
2. MTB ride of 5.4-10.8 miles (1 loop or 2) at the park, plus ~0.4mi to get there from the shelter. (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43855899)

Families can ride on the south-side of the park or ride the hard surface trail on the north-side of VA 277.  (There will be no traffic control crossing VA 277; safe crossing the responsibility of any participant.)

So we can understand how big an event this will be, please do register ASAP. 

This will help determine how many beverages to purchase as well as hamburgers and hot dogs.

The James Wood/FFA Shelter is rented by WW for the entire day (9:00 AM to Dusk).
